How to set password on a zip or rar File

Winrar archive (or .rar) file is a compressed archive file that can contain other files in compressed format. RAR archive is famous because of the file size that can be compressed with powerful encryption that is built in. We can encrypt & password protect any RAR archive with few clicks. Unauthorized users will not be able to see the names of the files it contains without putting correct password.

Please follow the below steps to create a password protected rar file:

 

STEP1 

Search & Download WinRAR

Open google.com in Chrome or any other browser in your computer. Search for WinRAR setup. Download it & open it:

 

 

STEP2

Download page will open. Select your Operating System type (either 32bit or 64bit).

*Note
You can check your OS type in ‘My Computer’ properties whether it is 32 or 64bit

Choose your language & download the installation setup.

 

 

STEP3 

Double click on winrar-x64 exe file to install WinRAR program. It will show a pop up on desktop. Click on “Install”:

 

 

STEP4

Create new file for RAR archive (or use any existing file)

Create a new file by Right-Click on desktop or select any data you want to create its archive WinRAR.

 

 

After creating new file, Right-Click on new file and select “Add to archive” as highlighted in picture.

 

New Pop up will appear on Desktop, now type the name on “Archive name” and click on “Set password” to Set password on archive.

STEP5 

Add password to the file

Put a password in the “Enter password” and click OK to complete set password process.

 

STEP6

Test the Archive

Our archive has been created. We must test our RAR archive now. Move the cursor on archive and Right-Click on it and select “Extract Here” as shown in the Picture.

 

Put password in “Enter password” box to open archive file and then click “OK”.

 

Complete and Close RAR archive. Our Test file (WinRar.txt) has been opened after unlocking RAR archive file.

Now our archive has been tested.
